New stadium lighting for Serie B club Virtus Entella
For professional football clubs, reliable stadium lighting is essential. Not only for players and supporters, but also for television broadcasts and meeting league requirements. At Stadio di Chiavari, Virtus Entella chose a complete upgrade to Lumosa LED stadium lighting to ensure the venue is ready for the future.
Working together with CORUS, the existing discharge floodlights were replaced with 100 Lumosa CS860 PRO luminaires, each rated at 1,720 W. The new installation was mounted on the four existing 30-metre floodlight towers, allowing the existing infrastructure to remain in use.
Higher light quality with lower energy consumption
The switch to LED sports lighting immediately delivered significant benefits. The total installed power was reduced from approximately 220 kW to 172 kW, while both lighting quality and uniformity improved across the entire pitch.
Alongside the new luminaires, the electrical control panels beneath each floodlight tower were upgraded. The stadium was also equipped with LumosaTouch, allowing the complete lighting installation to be controlled remotely using a smartphone, tablet or computer. This makes it easy to switch between lighting levels for matches, training sessions and maintenance.
The new installation fully complies with the lighting standards of the Italian Serie B. The pitch now delivers an average vertical illuminance of at least 1,200 lux towards the main television cameras and 800 lux in all other camera directions. In addition, the average horizontal illuminance exceeds 1,000 lux, providing excellent visibility for players, officials, supporters and broadcast coverage.
A modern stadium completed in just 13 working days
A project of this scale requires careful planning and efficient execution. The complete lighting upgrade was finished in just 13 working days, minimising disruption while delivering a future-proof solution.
Today, Stadio di Chiavari benefits from a modern LED stadium lighting system that combines high performance, lower energy consumption and simple day-to-day operation. The result is a stadium that is fully prepared for evening fixtures and delivers the lighting quality expected at professional level.
