Sikh Temple Takinini

The Supreme Sikh Community of Takinini is a cultural center and the heart of the Sikh community in South Auckland. The trustees of the center are well-known throughout New Zealand for providing the best possible facilities. In 2017 the Temple embarked on a complete redevelopment of the grounds surrounding the temple with the idea of transforming fellow land into sports and play facilities. The project included a new synthetic football pitch, volleyball court, basketball court, cricket nets, running track, children’s playground, refurbished kabaddi grass area, PA system, gate controls, bore water system, and of course a state-of-the-art LED lighting system. How did the lighting help the Sikh community realize their ambitions?

Excellent lighting

The project included the design of a new lighting system from scratch. This started with a black canvas where the new poles were to be best situated. This was completed to provide excellent lighting as well as minimize the spill light on the neighbouring properties. The football field is illuminated using six 18m high poles, the kabaddi field with four 13m high poles, and the basketball court with four 9m poles. Overall lux levels were impressive with 277 lux on the football field, 232 lux on the kabaddi field, and over 400 lux on the basketball court.
