Efficient lighting for a thriving football club

Sportvereniging Tabuense is a football club with a strong focus on youth development and a first team that competes in the 1st Division of the Coimbra Football Association. The club is based at the Dr António Oliveira and Costa Júnior Sports Park in the municipality of Tábua, Coimbra.

To improve the sports infrastructure the club applied for a grant under the Rehabilitation Programme for Sports Infrastructures from the Portuguese Institute of Sport and Youth. This application was approved with a specific emphasis on energy efficiency. Thanks to this financial support the sports park lighting could be renewed with a modern and sustainable solution.

An investment that not only enhances visibility on the pitch but also contributes to lower energy consumption and a future-proof sporting environment.

Energy savings and improved illumination

The new lighting system was delivered in collaboration with Lumosa after the club asked for an energy-efficient solution to replace the existing lighting. Lumosa carried out a detailed light study to determine the number of luminaires needed for uniform, efficient lighting that met both the club’s requirements and the European standards for sports lighting.

Once approved by the sports club the installation of eight CS860 Pro luminaires of 1720 W took place. The result is Class III lighting according to European standard EN 12193 2018 with an illuminance of 150 lux on the pitch and a uniformity higher than 0.7. A reliable and sustainable upgrade that puts sporting performance in the spotlight.

Smart control with LumosaTouch

In addition to the luminaires Sportvereniging Tabuense chose the smart control system LumosaTouch. This user-friendly web application makes it possible to manage the Lumosa lighting in an intelligent way with maximum energy efficiency. Users can easily select different zones of the pitch and adjust the light level according to the activity. The main administrator can also create multiple users and set their permissions individually.

The Lumosa lighting was installed in April 2021. Three years later we returned to Sportvereniging Tabuense to hear how the solution performs in practice.

The club’s energy costs were previously around € 700 per month and are now reduced by approximately 50 percent. Without a doubt this is a very positive development for the club.

Thanks to dynamic control with LumosaTouch Sportvereniging Tabuense enjoys significant energy savings. The system reduces the need for manual intervention and optimises energy use which translates into lower costs and greater convenience.
